“Eat the omelette and President you will be…”
The soufflée omelette is the signature dish of Mère Poulard. It is light, fluffy and unique!
The story of the omelette and the French presidents is extraordinary: In 1969, Georges Pompidou, then a congressman, came for the second time to La Mère Poulard to enjoy the traditional recipe of the famous omelet. A few months later, he became President of the French Republic. Several years later, the French statesman, Francois Mitterand, who visited the Mont Saint Michel on several occasions and never missed to taste the omelette, got elected in 1981. He came back to enjoy his favorite omeletteand got reelected in 1988! In 1995, Jacques Chirac, former Prime Minister and Mayor of Paris, also visited La Mère Poulard twice before being elected twice as French President. Was it a coincidence then that Nicolas Sarkozy launched his presidential campaign with a visit to the Mont Saint Michel in 2007? He tasted the omeletteand was elected two months later. He never made it back to La Mère Poulard and was beaten by Francois Hollande in 2012.
Will the miracle of the lucky omelet happen with Alain Juppé, former Prime minister or current President Francois Hollande, who both came to visit in October 2015?
